Our patient of the month is Fred who sees Cameron in Salisbury...
Where is the pain?
The pain was in my right shoulder, it was very sore and uncomfortable.
What caused the pain?
I had open heart surgery earlier in the year and part of the recovery was to have a chest brace fitted to help the healing process. The brace restricted movement and over time the pain in my shoulder got worse and I had other muscle issues, probably over compensating for my lack of free movement.
What made you decide to seek help from Osteopathy in particular?
My wife and son have been treated regularly by Cameron, who has helped my son especially due to a growth spurt where his muscles needed help in catching up with his skeleton! My wife felt it couldn’t do any harm and I am so pleased I took her advice
How did the Osteopath treat you?
It was with a combination of gentle manipulation, dry needling, talking to me about the issues, he also identified a possible problem with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome in my wrists which he treated. Cameron treated my shoulder sympathetically in case it was a rotator cuff injury or possibly a frozen shoulder, looking at both possibilities.
Has the Osteopath helped you in any other way?
He listens and talks me through everything and has helped me to do more with my recovery from home, ie. Exercises to create a resistance force, and help ease the over compensating issues.
Did the Osteopath recommend any treatment from a different aspect?
We discussed my reluctance to take painkillers, and to get more to the root of the problem, and help to concentrate on my general posture.
What was the most beneficial aspect of your treatment?
Cameron is great fun and so my sessions with him were enjoyable, he understands how I want to be able to help myself get better, maintain my mobility and get stronger. I can talk to him about it all and of course I feel better!
Is there anything you would like to say to someone who is perhaps undecided about osteopathy?
Do try it, don’t dismiss it and rely on GP’s advice, but go to the experts Not Just Backs!
