Foot care appointments are aimed at looking after the ongoing health of your feet and keeping your feet comfortable so that you can carry on doing the things you enjoy. This may be cutting toenails, which seems a simple task but can be difficult to do properly if you have issues with your eyesight, problems with your neck, back, hips or knees, or difficulty handling the tools to do so if you have arthritis in your hands for example.

Foot assessments will also look at your overall foot health including your nerves and circulation and therefore it is important to share details of your medical history, which you will complete before your appointment. Your skin will also be assessed and moles or lesions checked as to whether a referral to your GP may be advised.

Other foot-health issues which can be treated include corns, hard skin build-up, ingrowing/involuted toenails, cracked/fissured heels, fungal infections, fungal or thickened nails, etc.

If you have specific health conditions such as diabetes it is especially important to look after and monitor your feet to avoid problems such as diabetic foot ulcers.

A key part of your appointment is the provision of advice on how to look after your feet to help avoid problems, and how to manage your feet to keep them as comfortable as possible. Appropriate footwear, paddings and moulds can be of significant benefit. When our feet are uncomfortable it can affect other areas of our bodies such as our knees, hips and back. After seeking foot care people often wonder why they hadn’t done so before.
